Cowes Primary School with an enrolment of approximately 400 students, is 130 years old and is located 140 kilometres south east of Melbourne. The school is in the township of Cowes on Phillip Island in the Gippsland Region. It sits amongst seven hectares of attractive grounds. One third of students travel to school by bus from outlying areas. The school is seen as a vital and integral part of the local community.
We provide a safe, supportive and caring learning environment that nurtures the academic, emotional, physical and social growth of each student and staff member at Cowes Primary School.
Our school aims to promote an education of real value and the attainment of excellence, enabling all students to reach their academic, social and physical potential. We focus on building students’ self-esteem, confidence and pride in themselves, their school and their community.

Our School Environment
The school is a five star energy sustainable school, Sun Smart and Asthma Friendly School. The school surroundings include:
- a two hectare native sanctuary
- extensive appropriate play equipment

- gymnasium, canteen, art room, tennis courts, swimming pool and vegetable garden.
Support Programs & Services
Cowes Primary School is fortunate to be able to offer additional support for students through the provision of a school chaplain, integration aids, visiting specialists, language support teachers, Reading Recovery, a gifted students program and a kinder to Prep transition program.
Parents are encouraged to share in a partnership with a focus on developing positive educational outcomes for their children.

School Hours
| Before School Yard Supervision | 8.45 - 9.00am |
| Doors open for placement of bags, lunch orders | 8.50am |
| School classes commence | 9.00 |
| Morning Recess | 11.00 - 11.30 |
| Lunch - supervised eating time | 1.30 - 1.40pm |
| Lunch time recess | 1.40 - 2.30pm |
| School classes dismissed | 3.30pm |
| After School Yard Supervision | 3.30 - 3.45pm |
If your child has not been collected by 3.45 pm, he/she will be enrolled in After School Hours Program, and the appropriate payment will apply.
School Bus Service
There is a Government bus service for those children living more than 4.8 km from the school. Parents and students must complete a Bus Travel form to enable them to be entered on the bus roll. Children must be at their designated bus stop five minutes prior to pick up time.
School buses arrive and depart within the school grounds. Teachers mark a bus roll each afternoon.
